The Price of Persistence
Now, this is what we call a comeback. There is no way, one can tell it is the same City VTEC that we featured in our ‘Old School Heroes’ special issue in June 2011. Everything else has changed about it, except for the friendly bloke who drove it to us- Mr. Manoj of Auto Klin.
Manoj has thrown the idea of selling his City for something new, out of the window, long time ago. Like a proper enthusiast, he has devoted the last few years to improving it. Gone are the set of old Lenso S2 alloys. In its place are new CQ4 alloys from their Conquista series. Manoj has also gone one step further and painted them in glossy anthracite finish and they look extremely good wearing some stretched rubber. 205/40 R17 on 8J rims is one perfect combination for old generation cars.
Also new are the body kit and the new two piece front splitter suspended by tie rods. The fenders are wrapped in carbon fibre finish vinyl while the mirrors have been painted matte grey. An offset license plate makes the Mugen grille appear more prominent and draws the attention to the tow hook and fog lamps.
Inside, this VTEC is as clean as it gets. The dashboard still looks prestine and everything else feels the same as they did when it left the factory 12 years ago. The driver side gets a BRIDE replica sports seat, while the rest of the seats are standard down to the factory upholstery. The dashboard and A-pillars get various gauges added seamlessly into them all angled towards the driver, who also gets a sporty MOMO steering wheel.
The City gets an HKS mushroom filter with stainless steel intake pipe, a 4x2x1 exhaust from Raj. The suspension has been swapped for a set of Hot Bits coilovers. Getting the ride height was thus very easy. Brakes are custom made slotted rotors.
Speaking of future mods, Manoj has plans to get a B16 throttle body and Edelbrock manifold along with updated injectors and ECU. Perhaps a clutch upgrade is also on the cards. No plans to go forced induction or anything. “May be I will give it a make over once again when I get bored” he says. Knowing him, we know it will once again be worthy of coming back to our pages.
